Rasha Gerges Shields @rashagerges has taken over as President of the LA Board of Police Commissioners. In honor of that, I’d like to repost something I put together last year after Rasha’s stunning speech at the weekly commission meeting. She said this after the first week of protests against ICE here in LA, peaceful protests in response to our city being violently attacked by the federal government and ICE occupying our city. Except, we didn’t just have to protect ourselves from ICE, the military, border patrol, the national guard, ATF, the FBI just to name a few agencies, we ALSO had to protect ourselves from the LAPD, LA Sheriff’s dept, LA Metro Police and a ton of horses that I had to watch be abused, gassed and sprayed with chemical weapons. How the hell is this LA? This whole industry freaks out about animal anything cruelty and yet, this city has allowed these horses to be brutalized every time they are out there. I’ve watched them be tortured the entire last year. Those horses are terrified and they are forced to walk through and stand in clouds of tear gas. I grew up on a farm. Don’t even try with me.
