Tom's Tips Training

Someone asked me yesterday why I spend so much time doing volunteer work. Many might think it's crazy, a foolish use of time energy and resources, or just dumb. But I can tell you, that if you have a passion for your community, youth, animals or whatever it is, there is nothing wasted. For me it's working with kids or doing things that can have a positive impact on their lives. When one child's eyes light up, or you see them learning a new skill, or just having a good day because you had a conversation with them, everything is worth it. I have worked with many youth organizations over the years and have always felt blessed to be able to be a part of them. I think this is the same feeling my youth pastors, scout leaders, camp counselors, and teachers had when I was growing up. I understand why they gave their time, energy and resources to impact the lives of me and my friends. I feel it is only right to do the same now that I can. Yes this year has been rough for me, and I'm still not fully recovered, but I truly believe that I am also receiving healing myself from my efforts. I know that over the last few months I have gained back some of my stamina, peace of mind and felt needed, and that is what I needed. That is all just a serendipity of the volunteer work I choose.
If any of this makes sense to you, I encourage you to find something you are passionate about and dive in, or at least stick a toe in and see if you feel the same. We live in a small community, and that isbwhat a community is all about, helping each other. A rising tide raises all ships, don't you want to rise up while helping others rise up as well?
