When I photographed her, I saw strength. But behind every portrait is a story we can’t always see at first glance.

She has lived through unimaginable loss, heartbreak, reinvention, and the kind of resilience that reshapes a person. Yet through it all, she continues to love fiercely, rebuild, and keep moving forward.

Her story is raw, honest, heartbreaking, and deeply hopeful — and I’m honored to share it.

It’s always a bit awkward when we get started so I brought along Star Wars light sabers to loosen everyone up.

I had learned in the consultation that Hannah and her dad were Star Wars fans so what better way to be playful than a light saber battle? I knew these wouldn’t be the yearbook photos, but they got us all laughing from the start - that and the fact that I couldn't get one to turn off the whole night and had to put it in my trunk because the sound was so annoying!!

Hannah is a bright soul which I first learned from her step-mom in our initial phone call. As we talked through possible locations and her interests, Glen Haven Beach eventually became the place of choice.

When Hannah said “Can I chase the seagulls?” I immediately said “YES!” We did some light sabering, running, hiking, sweating, and near-swimming for this beautiful senior portrait session on Lake Michigan lakeshore.
