Loyalty has four paws. 🐾❤️
🦝🎉🍗 Raccoonapalooza 2026 was a huge success! Attendance exceeded expectations.
What began as a lost dog trapping operation quickly turned into the hottest midnight event in town. Five raccoons showed up, climbed all over the trap, inspected the bait, and generally acted like they had purchased VIP backstage passes.
Stay tuned for Raccoonapalooza 2027, where organizers are hoping to attract slightly fewer raccoons and slightly more dogs. 😂

Emergency in Plain Sight
Earlier this week, we received a message about Bruce.
Bruce had been missing since May 1st, and his dad had been searching for him every single day. In a time when so many pets are abandoned or forgotten, devoted pawrents like Bruce’s dad are a breath of fresh air.
A member of the community reported a sighting, and Bruce’s dad immediately went to investigate. When he finally spotted him, the situation became urgent. Bruce was severely emaciated and hiding in a tiny wooded area—barely 150 feet by 150 feet—right next to a major roadway traveled by thousands of people every day.
Somehow, despite being surrounded by traffic, businesses, and people, Bruce had remained hidden in plain sight.
Dad left a bowl of food in the area, and the next day we obtained permission to operate on the property. We established a feeding station and deployed cameras. Cellular cameras are critical during these cases. They tell us whether the animal is still present and help us develop a pattern of behavior.
The first night brought storms. While the cameras didn’t capture Bruce, they did reveal telltale signs in the food bowl that suggested he had visited. We refreshed the station the next morning, and before long Bruce began developing an important routine—showing up within an hour after the bowls were filled each morning.
Then he disappeared.
Had he moved on? Was his body simply adjusting to finally having food available again?
The following day he returned. Then he came back again. And again.
Surely tonight would be the night he entered the trap.
Nope.
We locked the trap open at midnight, and Bruce appeared at 4:00 AM.
The next evening we adjusted our strategy.
Nope. Not that night either.
We locked the trap open at 10:00 PM and planned to set it at sunrise Saturday morning, hoping to avoid the army of nocturnal bowl-raiders that visit overnight.
Bruce showed up an hour later.
He emptied the bowl and even shoved it around, apparently filing a formal complaint that it wasn’t full enough.
Saturday morning arrived. Dad met us at the trap, we set everything up, and then we waited.
Thirty-one minutes later, the camera notifications started.
Bruce was back.
He entered the trap.
The door closed.
Bruce was safe.
Interestingly, Bruce wasn’t bothered by the trap at all. Being kennel-trained, he simply settled in and enjoyed the fresh meal waiting inside.
We loaded the trap into the truck and headed straight to the veterinarian. When a dog has been surviving on the run, we never open a trap unless we’re in a secure location. If they escape again, it can become exponentially more difficult to recover them a second time.
Understanding the urgency of Bruce’s condition, the veterinary team welcomed him immediately. We wheeled the trap directly into the exam room and released him there.
Dad and Bruce were finally reunited.
A full examination, bloodwork, stool testing, a precautionary rabies booster, and a carefully structured feeding plan later, Bruce was cleared to head home.
After a much-needed bath, Bruce reclaimed his favorite spot on the sofa.
The balance of the world had been restored.
Bruce was home.
And for the first time in a very long time, everyone involved could finally get some rest.
A special thank you to every community member who searched, shared Bruce’s story, kept an eye out, and reported sightings. Every share, every tip, and every sighting helped tell Bruce’s story and ultimately led us to him.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to TimberCreek West Veterinary Hospital for recognizing the urgency of Bruce’s condition, seeing him immediately, and providing exceptional care. Their compassion and willingness to help made all the difference for a dog that desperately needed it.
Trapped. Safe. Home.

🚨 STOLEN DOG — TOPEKA 🚨
This dog was taken by individuals who knew exactly who the owner was and knew the owner was actively searching for him and en route to pick him up.
Instead of returning the dog, they chose to keep him.
That is not a rescue. That is theft.
A report has been filed with the Topeka Police Department and Animal Control, and we are actively working to identify the individuals involved and locate this dog. (Case #: 2026-42046)
We need your help.
Please share this post with every veterinarian clinic, emergency veterinarian, groomer, boarding facility, pet store, rescue group, shelter, trainer, and pet-related business in the Topeka area. Anyone attempting to conceal the dog’s whereabouts will eventually need veterinary care, supplies, grooming services, or assistance.
If you have any information regarding this dog, the individuals who took him, or where he may be located, please contact us immediately:

🔒 Anonymous tips are welcome.
To the person who has this dog:
You know this dog has a family. You know they were looking for him. You know they were on their way to retrieve him.
Children are heartbroken. A family is suffering. Every hour you keep this dog only makes the situation worse.
There is still an opportunity to do the right thing. Return the dog immediately and end this.
No matter how strongly you feel, you do not have the right to take someone else’s dog and decide for yourself where that dog belongs.
Bring him home.
