Topeka folks! Join us for our final Gender Brown Bag conversation which will be held both in-person and virtually with me discussing “Raise Less Corn and More Hell! Annie Diggs: A Prairie Populist, and Staging History”
Time: 12:00pm–12:50pm on Monday, April 20.
Location: Lincoln Room, Memorial Union.

In this session, I will perform an excerpt from “Raise Less Corn and More Hell! Annie Diggs’ A Prairie Populist,” a one-woman play that brings to life Annie Diggs, a journalist, orator, poet, advocate for women’s suffrage, and fierce Populist voice of 1890s in Kansas. Through imagined headlines for The Kansas Liberal and vivid recollections of her life and work as an activist, this play explores the Populist Movement in the United States, highlighting Diggs’ work. The presentation will conclude with a brief Q&A and a discussion connecting the themes of the play, such as grassroots activism, social reform, and women’s political leadership, to our own campus conversations, inviting participants to reflect on how this chapter of Kansas History resonates today.
