๐พDave Kendall, host of โSunflower Journeysโ for 27 years, will be back in the KTWU studios, ๐ฃ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ (๐/๐) ๐๐ญ ๐:๐๐ ๐ฉ.๐ฆ. to talk about โTallgrass Prairie National Preserve,โ his documentary about the creation of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County, Kansas, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary!
๐ฅThe film, considered โA Flint Hills Love Story,โ was the first documentary produced by Prairie Hollow Productions, a company started by Dave and his wife, Laura Mead. Beginning in July 2015, they spent a year transversing the preserve, capturing its beauty throughout the four seasons, while interviewing 24 people who could help tell the story.

For more than a century, the German Family Massacre has haunted the High Plains. The capture of four young sisters who survived the massacre of their parents and three siblings by the Cheyenne, who were being forced from their land, became legend and was often distorted by sensational accounts. โ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ค๐ฌโ moves beyond the myth and offers an honest, balanced examination of the killing of the settlers, the capture and eventual rescue of the daughters, and the Cheyenne perspective that is often absent from earlier accounts.
The program is a Smoky Hills PBS special production.

What a week we had! ๐ Thank you to each and every one of you who helped us reach our financial goal for our last fund drive of the fiscal year. Your generosity will help us address the $970,000 gap resulting from the loss of federal funding.
โจ We are especially grateful to our matching donors: Dr. Valerie Wright from Manhattan, the Dean Coughenour Trust and Bill and Emilie Gahnstrom. Their dollar-for-dollar matches significantly boosted our fundraising total and inspired others to give.
๐ A special thank-you goes to our guests: Vanessa Steinroetter (WU Professor of English) and Kelly Erby (WU Professor of History and Dean), Jordan Roemerman (Kansas Tourism), Bill Gargan (National Weather Service), Darlene Morgan and Ben Coates Jr. They all did a wonderful job hosting with our staff!
๐ซ Thank you to our wonderful volunteers! The Southwest Topeka Kiwanis, Topeka Lions Clubs, Sunflower Music Festival representatives, Xi Eta Sigma and Friends of KTWU answered phone calls from donors. Most of the behind-the-scenes work: audio, character generator and camera work, was done by our amazing volunteers. We simply could not operate live programming without their dedication and commitment.
๐ฝ Finally, thank you to Toppers Pizza, Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant, Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q and Glory Days Pizza for keeping us fed throughout the week. The support we receive from our local community is truly amazing, and we are deeply grateful.
Good morning! This , Laura Mead takes us through the simple 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique to help bring us into the present moment. ๐ชทWishing you a peaceful and wonderful week ahead!
