The 2026 Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) application period is open! If eligible, LIEAP could help you pay a portion of your primary home heating costs during the winter season with a one-time per year benefit paid directly to your energy provider.

Applications must be received by DCF by 5 p.m. on March 31, 2026.

Here is a draft public comment email for tonight's city council meeting for Housing and Homelessness Sales Tax considerations. The draft is left fairly neutral, please feel free to add, edit, and send an email to City Council for public comment tonight.

Hello,

I am advocating for a housing and homelessness sales tax proposal to be drafted. I believe all Topekans should have the agency to vote on a housing and homelessness sales tax. I would like to know when public input is available, so that everyone has the chance to be represented. I want to be educated on the parameters of a housing and homelessness sales tax before it is presented to city council again for review, as well as before the potential election where the ballot item would be available to vote on. I urge the council members to have a commission appointed to draft a housing and homelessness sales tax ballot question, and to provide staff to assist the appointed commission and provide data and guidance. I also advocate for council persons to direct appropriate city staff to educate the public on how potential funds would be utilized, and provide information on how much it would cost for households at three different income levels. I would also like the public to be provided with information on what benefits a housing and homelessness sales tax could have. But most importantly, I want to know when public input will become available. Please give people the chance to be represented.
