An active business, Topeka Cemetery welcomes all and has burial spaces throughout its 80 acres. Historic Topeka Cemetery is an open-air museum of Topeka and Kansas history. There are veterans from every conflict since the War of 1812. A statue of a proud Union soldier honors the bravery of men who fought to preserve the Union and keep Kansas free. Events over the Memorial Day Weekend at Historic Topeka Cemetery

Grounds are open during daylight hours. The cemetery office will be staffed all three days to assist families in finding loved ones. Staff also will be on the grounds to assist.

Saturday, May 24, 2025
9 a.m. Saturday, May 24 – Sons of Union Veterans’ annual Remembrance Ceremony, in the Civil War section. Use the main gate on 10th Avenue, drive straight up the hill and turn left at the top.
10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 – Dedication of headstone for first burial with the Friends of Historic Topeka Cemetery.
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24 – Stories from the Grave. Friends of Historic Topeka Cemetery will have storytellers to relate life histories of some of the cemetery’s most interesting residents. On the south end of the cemetery; use the gate off California. Check in at the covered patio; mini tours starting every 15 minutes.

Monday, May 26, 2025
10 a.m. Monday, May 26 – Vietnam Veterans observance, at the Bell Tower on the south end of the cemetery. Use the California gate; look for the stand of three flags: U.S., state and POW/MIA.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 26 – Stories from the Grave. Check in at the covered patio; mini tours starting every 15 minutes.
