This is Dave—an amazing bass player who faithfully joins our worship team each week at The River service at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church -Oak Harbor OH

If you attend our services, you may not even notice him at first. Dave sits off to the side of the altar, out of sight from most of the congregation. But then, at just the right moment, a deep bass note fills the room, and you realize how much he is adding to worship.

Dave has taught me an important lesson: not all service is meant to be seen. We don’t have to be front and center to make a difference in God’s Kingdom. We don’t need recognition, applause, or acknowledgment from others. God sees every act of service, every sacrifice, and every faithful heart.

In a world that often encourages us to be noticed, there is something beautiful about quietly serving the Lord with no expectation of praise. Some of the most impactful people in the Kingdom are the ones working behind the scenes, faithfully using their gifts simply because they love God.

Thank you, Dave, for your humble and faithful example. Your service reminds me that the best ministry isn’t about being seen—it’s about pointing others to Jesus.

And to all those serving behind the scenes—musicians, sound technicians, teachers, greeters, prayer warriors, cleaners, and countless others—thank you. You are making an eternal difference, even when no one else notices.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” — Colossians 3:17

Have you ever felt unqualified, unprepared, or simply not “good enough” for God to use you?

The disciples weren’t perfect. They had doubts, fears, flaws, and failures. Yet in Matthew 9:35–10:23, Jesus called them anyway. He didn’t wait until they had it all together—He simply asked them to answer the call.

This Sunday at Elmore Church of God at 10:30 AM, we’ll explore how Jesus still calls ordinary, imperfect people to do extraordinary things in His name. The mission has never been about perfection; it’s about obedience, compassion, and trusting the One who sends us.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God could use someone like you, this message is for you❣️

Join me for worship, fellowship, and a reminder that God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for willing hearts.

As a parent, there are few things harder than watching your child walk through fear, doubt, and darkness. This past winter, Shelby Kate faced one of the most difficult seasons of her young life.

But through it all, God never moved.

Sunday evening, she shared her story at The River St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church -Oak Harbor OH, and I couldn’t have been more proud. Her testimony wasn’t about having all the answers—it was about discovering that even in the middle of questions, fear, and uncertainty, God’s love remains constant.

I am so thankful for a church family that gives young people the opportunity to share their faith journeys and encourage others through their experiences. The honesty, courage, and hope shared by Shelby, Lara and Tyler was inspiring.

If you missed the service, I encourage you to take a few minutes and watch this video. You may see a young person sharing their story, but you’ll also see a faithful God who never stops pursuing His children.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20

Sometimes when life is going well and our faith is growing, the enemy looks for another way to discourage us—and often the people closest to our hearts feel the impact.

This past winter, my daughter, Shelby Kate walked through a dark and difficult season filled with fear, questions, and doubt. But even in the darkness, she discovered something incredible: God never left. As Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.” He was there the whole time, patiently waiting, loving, and guiding her back to Him.

Join us Sunday, June 7 at 5:00 PM for The River at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church -Oak Harbor OH as Shelby shares her powerful testimony, along with other young people who have experienced God's faithfulness in their own journeys.

Their stories are real, honest, and full of hope. We would love for you to be there.

I’m so human!!! ❤️🥰

Today is Pentecost… the day Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His disciples. To many, it’s considered the birthday of the Church!

This morning Devin and I (A Change of Plans) were blessed to be part of a unique service at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church -Oak Harbor OH…in their parking lot. The congregation pulls in, rolls down their windows, or tunes their car radios to hear the service.

And this morning, while getting ready, my very human brain thought:
“The Holy Spirit…in a parking lot?!” 😅

I’ve experienced the Holy Spirit in nature, in beautiful sanctuaries, and in my car singing praise songs at the top of my lungs…but a parking lot just felt so open. My silly brain actually thought:

“How could it contain the Holy Spirit? Wouldn’t it just float away?” 🤣

(Yes, please laugh at my ridiculous humanity…because I am too!)

But as Devin and I practiced “Holy Spirit,” my eyes locked onto the community water tower proudly displaying our town’s name. And suddenly God shifted my perspective.

The Holy Spirit wasn’t just in that parking lot.

He wasn’t confined to four church walls.

He was covering our entire community.

As I sang:
“Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your Glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord”-by Bryan and Katie Torwalt

…I stopped singing a song and started praying a prayer.

I prayed every person in our little town would feel the peace, comfort, conviction, and love of the Holy Spirit today.

God continues to remind me that His presence is so much bigger than buildings, traditions, or the limits of my human understanding.

And honestly…I’m thankful He’s patient enough to keep teaching me through my silliness. ❤️

Today make every effort you can to feel that fire of the Holy Spirt, sometimes it washes over us like a flood and sometimes sits quietly waiting for us to realize it’s there. Whichever way it is for you, I pray today you feel it!
