"I think very highly of our city right now," Melden said. "I think even more highly of our city 19 years from now, and so you give us time to prepare, we are going to knock it out of the park. There's no doubt."

Palmer Gardens residents without water for over 24 hours due to private main break 02/18/2026

This is an issue of humanity. Residents of Palmer Gardens deserve a management company that delivers excellent customer service rooted in respect and dignity. That is clearly not happening.

My priority is working with the administration to get the water back on. But, then - we need this private company to step up and do better.

Big thanks to Alexis Means 13abc for such a great job reporting on this story.

A Look Back On 2025 12/30/2025

At the end of every year, reflection is an important part of my life. Looking back over the days and weeks that made up my year, what stands out? What slipped by and deserves a bit more focus? Sometimes scanning your calendar or scrolling through your camera roll can bring back a memory that is important to spend another moment with. And when we reflect, much like appreciating any type of history, it gives us gratitude for where we are and prepares for what’s next.

As I reflect on my work on Toledo City Council this year, it reminds me of the very reasons I first wanted to run for office: Take the long view, think about what our community might look like 30 years from now, and how we could make decisions today with our shared future in mind.

Sale of synthetic kratom banned in Toledo city limits 11/06/2025

This was an important step for our community. Toledo City Council banned the sale of 7-OH Kratom products by a 12-0 vote Tuesday.

This decision says something about who we are: a community that learns from experience, that prioritizes public health and safety, and that doesn’t wait for Columbus or Washington to fix local problems we can handle ourselves.

When law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and recovery advocates all tell us the same thing, that these products are showing up more often in overdoses and emergency calls, we should listen and act. I want to give a huge thank you to Matt Bell, and his colleagues at Team Recovery, for helping educate Council on what these products really do to our neighbors.
