Now we know the location.

A major new residential development is headed to Terrell, bringing hundreds of new homes and significant investment to the area.

According to state construction filings, a project called Terrell Apartments is planned for 1010 Rose Hill Road in Terrell. The privately funded development represents an estimated $70 million investment and is scheduled to begin construction on May 4, 2026, with completion projected for early May 2028.

The project will consist of approximately 350 build-to-rent units, designed as a mix of single-level, single-occupant homes and two-story duplex buildings. Unlike traditional apartment complexes, build-to-rent communities are designed to offer the feel of single-family living while remaining professionally managed.

Plans also show a wide range of amenities, including a clubhouse, swimming pool, playgrounds, multiple ramadas, and a private school bus shelter, indicating a family-oriented layout. The total development will span roughly 480,000 square feet.

The project is located in Kaufman County and will be constructed on private land for private use. As with all large developments, the project will still go through permitting, plan review, and inspection processes with the City of Terrell before construction officially begins.

This development signals continued growth for Terrell as residential demand expands and new housing options are added to the community.

Big news for Downtown Terrell.

The Terrell Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) has announced the purchase of the historic Brin Opera House, which will become the future home of both TEDC and the Terrell Chamber of Commerce.

According to TEDC, renovations are planned to preserve the building’s historic character while creating office space, meeting and training areas, and resources to support local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Originally built in the 1890s by businessman and banker Philip Brin, the Brin Opera House has been one of Historic Downtown Terrell’s most recognizable landmarks for well over a century.

It’s always encouraging to see historic buildings given a new purpose rather than sitting empty.

What memories do you have of the Brin Opera House, or what would you love to see preserved during the renovation?
