Temple Terrace Local
🚨 The 2026 Temple Terrace Open is LIVE! Here’s how to survive the weekend. 🎾
If you’ve been near the Richlyne Courts today, you’ve heard the "pop-pop-pop" of history being made! The City Pickleball Championship is officially in full swing, and while we love seeing 33617 get active, three days of tournament play in the Florida sun is no joke.
Whether you’re competing for a medal or just cheering from the sidelines, here are a few "Local’s Tips" to stay safe this weekend:
1. The "Hydration + Plus" Rule đź’§
Standard water isn't enough when you're on the hard courts for hours. Make sure you’re hitting the electrolytes now to avoid those calf cramps. (Pro-tip: Our local Ace Hardware usually has coolers and high-end reusable bottles in stock if yours sprouted a leak!)
2. Watch the "Pickleball Knee" 🦵
The quick side-to-side movements at the kitchen line are a workout for your joints. If you’re feeling a "twinge," don’t ignore it. We have some world-class Physical Therapists and sports recovery clinics right here in Temple Terrace. Many of them are open for quick assessments this weekend to keep you from benching yourself.
3. Sun Safety is Safety 🧴
The Richlyne Courts are beautiful, but they are open. If you forgot your hat or extra-strength sunscreen, do a quick run to one of our local shops before your next match. Skin safety is part of the game!
4. Post-Game Recovery 🍻
Win or lose, the "Pickleball Community" is all about the social side. Support the local businesses that sponsor our club. Head over to the local patios for some post-match hydration and a celebratory meal.

🚨 Neighbor-to-Neighbor: Let’s talk about the "Insurance Gap" on Fowler.
After the news of the recent crash at Fowler involving a patrol car, a few of our followers asked a great question: "If I get hit in a mess like that, am I actually covered?"
We did some digging, and the answer might surprise you. In high-traffic zones like ours, "Standard" or "Minimum" insurance can leave you in a huge hole. Here is what you need to check on your policy today:
1. The "Uninsured Motorist" (UM) Trap đźš—
Hillsborough County has one of the highest rates of underinsured drivers in the state. If you get hit by someone with "bare bones" insurance at a busy intersection, UM coverage is the only thing that pays for your long-term recovery. Check if you have it!
2. Claims Involving City Vehicles đźš”
When a crash involves a municipal or police vehicle, the insurance process gets very "legal" very fast. Having a local agent who can advocate for you is a world of difference compared to waiting on a corporate hold music line for 45 minutes.
3. The "PIP" 14-Day Rule ⏳
In Florida, if you don't seek medical attention within 14 days of an accident, you could lose your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits entirely. Even if you "feel fine" after a fender bender, get checked out.
The TTL Tip: Don't wait for an accident to read your fine print. Most of our local agents (State Farm, Allstate, and the independents) will do a Free Policy Review even if you aren't their customer. It takes 10 minutes and could save you thousands.
Keep those policies updated and your eyes on the road!

🚨 What the News Isn’t Telling You About the Recent Fowler Ave Crash
By now, most of us have seen the reports about the crash involving the officer at Fowler and 56th. While we’re all glad to hear the officer is stable, there’s a "legal side" to local accidents like this that most people don’t realize until it’s too late.
Because these recent accidents involve municipal vehicles and high-traffic state roads, the "standard" insurance rules don't always apply. Here are 3 things our community needs to know:
1. The "Notice" Clock is Different ⏱️
If a crash involves a city or state vehicle, you often have a much shorter window to file a formal "Notice of Claim" than you do in a regular fender-bender. If you miss that window, you might lose your rights entirely.
2. Sovereign Immunity is Real 🏛️
Florida has specific laws (Statute 768.28) that cap how much a government entity has to pay out. This means if there are multiple people injured, the "pot" for coverage can get complicated fast.
3. Fowler & 56th is a "High-Risk" Zone 📍
Insurance adjusters know which intersections have the most accidents. If you're local, make sure your "Uninsured Motorist" (UM) coverage is active. With the surge in incidents we've seen this month, being "fully covered" on paper might not be enough in reality.
Bottom Line: We love our first responders, but legal and insurance logistics are strictly business. If you or someone you know was nearby or involved, don't just "wait and see." Check your policy or talk to a professional who knows the Temple Terrace/Hillsborough specific codes.
Stay safe out there, neighbors. It's getting wild on Fowler.
