THE DAWNING
When I was first in practice in Temecula - let’s call it 1987 - a new patient moved her family here from Colorado. She said she was familiar with Applied Kinesiology technique, and I got all excited - “Where did you hear of me?” sure that there’d been an important professional referral.
“I looked in the phone book, and started with ‘A,’” she said.
“Oh,” I said, only happy that somebody had seen my too-expensive ad.
A couple years later, she asked me, “I’m having a guy out to adjust my horse - is that something you’d be interested in seeing?”
Well heck yes it was, and after I’d watched this horseshoer/trainer clod who’d learned how to make a decent manipulation, do his thing on a horse, I said, “Oh, I need to learn how to adjust animals.”
There wasn’t much in writing, but Pinterest had great anatomy charts, and I knew I needed to get my hands on spines and learn what “normal” was before anything else. So that’s where I started.
The horse-y patient mentioned Linda McKeel, mostly because she was friendly and had lots of horses, so I searched out McKeel Ranch, and told her what I was up to. She held horse after horse after horse for me, while I just felt skeletons and muscle structures, and taught myself about healthy horse anatomy. It was glorious.
I remember being very happy, and that I smelled like horses.
