I’ve been absent on here for quite a while for personal reasons, but this is so important I’ve decided to share in hopes of helping to bring awareness to something that could help save lives.

May is skin cancer awareness month. Ironically I was diagnosed with melanoma this month (the deadliest form of skin cancer) and will be having surgery & further testing next week to see if it has spread to other areas of my body. It has been extremely scary & I still don’t know what I’m facing. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to get your skin checked annually with your dermatologist.

Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them.

Some of you probably know people who’ve had skin cancer cut out & think it’s not a big deal, maybe you’ve even had a few cut out yourself. But there are many different forms of skin cancer and they are NOT all the same. Some, like melanoma can come with a very dangerous prognosis if not caught & treated early enough.

No one is immune from this. While some are more at risk it can affect anyone regardless of age, skin color, lifestyle etc.

Melanoma can be life threatening due to how rapidly it can spread to your other organs such as your brain, lungs, soft tissues, etc. often times without you even realizing what’s going on inside your body until it’s too late.

It doesn’t always look the way you hear about or see in photos, either. Mine didn’t.

If you have any concerning looking moles, new spots of any kind or anything that you are questioning please get it checked out ASAP. If they dismiss you ALWAYS get a second (or 3rd) opinion.

Make it a priority, don’t put it off, it could save your life.
