The Tallahassee Film Society and the Challenger Learning Center’s IMAX Theater present the documentary film Trains on Sunday, July 12, a film that captures the steam locomotive’s effect on Europe as this new era in transportation unfolded a hundred years ago.
Consisting entirely of found footage, Trains was produced in 2024 and is directed by Maciej J. Drygas, who acknowledges the liberation and optimism offered by the locomotive. Still, the machine had a role during both World Wars which brought misery and despair to those traveling – or forced to travel – by rail.
Trains won the best film award in 2024 from the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, and also the IDFA’s best editing award that year.
The film, which runs 80 minutes and is produced from archival materials, is not narrated but has English subtitles. The showing starts at 5 p.m., with general admission of $11 and film society members, $9. For more information, visit the website https://www.tallahasseefilms.com/.
