"The Shade I've Become" is the evolved form of "Always My Friend". The poem now lyrics, the thumbnail sketch turned into a full composition. The title a play on words both referencing the original thought that went into the poem and the way this is a sort of resurrection of some of my old creative output, repurposed into an updated form. Finally finished and not a sketch.

VERSE 1
a drop of color drying
left on the canvas edge
a highlight on a distant ocean
whose shores I’ll never reach

my place was brushed in silence
by a hand that knew its way
and even if the tides return
I’ll stay the shade I’ve become

colors fade, but meaning lingers
in the quiet where I settle

three shades lighter than aquamarine
a layer above
the person I used to be

with some good ideas
trying to matter in the picture

tells a story I can’t claim
I’m a whisper in the background
of a masterpiece unnamed

and though the hues around me deepen
and the edges start to blur
I hold the shape I started with
soft, uncertain, but still here
