Our choices and behaviors send messages to those around us, but not always the messages we think.

For example, say I see a work email come through at 11 pm, and I respond to it right away.

In doing this, I'm trying to send the signal "I'm on top of things."

The unspoken or hidden message ALSO conveyed by replying to emails off hours is “my needs and time with my family aren’t important,” and “I’ll be available at all hours to succeed.”
