🌄 Big News for our Mount Rainier National Park Mountain Rescue Patrols! 🌲❄️ We’re proud to share that, following the success of our winter operations since 2022 and a summer pilot program Aug-Oct this year, the National Park Service has asked the MRA to expand its weekend patrol coverage at Mt. Rainier to start early spring through late fall beginning in 2026.
This milestone reflects the incredible dedication, professionalism, and teamwork shown by every member of our patrol family. Your commitment to safety and service on the mountain has truly made a difference.
Last month we received a letter from DOI/NPS detailing how our work in 2025 has helped their Rangers and added to safety for the public at Mt Rainier — a reminder of how far we’ve come and what’s ahead.
As we move closer to possible year-round operations, we’re also in discussions with other Washington State MRA teams — including Olympic Mountain Rescue, Seattle Mountain Rescue, Everett Mountain Rescue, Volcano Rescue Team, Central Washington Mountain Rescue & others - and we’re hopeful they’ll join us in creating this bigger & better patrol program with coverage across all seasons. Collaboration and shared expertise will be key to supporting the growing number of visitors and keeping the mountain safe for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who’s helped make this possible. Here’s to more weekends of working alongside the awesome NPS LE & SAR team & continuing the MRA mission of “Saving Lives through Rescue and Mountain Safety” on Mt. Rainier. 💪🏔️

For two Sundays in a row Tacoma Mountain Rescue have been called to rescue hikers camping out in the wilderness who have become hypothermic & lost overnight in blizzard conditions. We're pleased to report that all these stories had happy endings. In the Washington mountains winter isn't coming - it's here!
