It's National Midwifery Week!

This year's theme is Midwives at the Table. From reducing maternal mortality to improving access in rural care, midwives are driving change at every level. Including midwives in conversations around policy, research, and practice improves outcomes and creates positive impacts for healthcare worldwide.

We are so grateful to all the midwives at Quilted Health - the ones providing stellar clinical care and the ones supporting them. Thank you for all you do!

Happy International Day of the Midwife! ๐ŸŒŽ๏ธ

This year's theme, set by the International Confederation of Midwives, is "Midwives: a Vital Climate Solution." In their words, โ€œClimate change poses unprecedented challenges to health, especially for [birthing people] and babies. As midwives, we play a pivotal role in reducing the effects of climate change. Our model of care is inherently sustainable, and by promoting continuity of midwife care, we can ensure healthier outcomes while using a sustainable, low-resource model of care.โ€

To our wonderful midwives at Quilted Health, in our Network, and throughout the world โ€” we appreciate you so much and are grateful for your wisdom, knowledge, mad skills, and incredible care. Working alongside you is a joy every day! ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿ’ซ Why do independent midwives need a Clinically Integrated Network? ๐Ÿ’ซ

1. Federal Recognition โ›”๏ธ - There is currently no federal recognition of the CPM credential. Several states do not acknowledge or license CPMs, making it difficult for midwives to practice in those states.

2. Insurance ๐Ÿงพ - Not all midwives can contract with insurance. This holds particularly true for those in states without licensure for CPMs, but remains a barrier across the country.

3. Payment ๐Ÿ’ธ - Insurance rates are often a fraction of what midwives need to sustain their businesses. Lack of adequate and timely reimbursement makes working as a midwife exponentially tougher.

Our Clinically Integrated Network aims to support independent midwives by creating a sustainable framework for midwife-led practices.
