SUNY ESF
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is the oldest and largest college in the United States devoted solely to the study of the environment. Since our establishment in 1911, we have developed innovative programs in a broad range of academic areas related to biology, chemistry, engineering, management, design and planning. We focus on educating problem solvers who will help develop the science and technology for a sustainable future.

This camera trap photo features a wolf doing something quite rare - exploring Nevada for the first time in modernity.
Sean Sultaire, a postdoctoral associate here at ESF, spoke recently with The Nevada Independent about a potential start to a wolf recovery story in that section of the U.S. In 2025, he published a study about the sighting in Ecology and Evolution, which included among the co-authors ESF's Joshua Millspaugh. According to the study, wolves were extirpated from the west in the 1920s.
