🚨 Helping students ride safely: Understanding new state e-ride law 🚲️

As summer begins and more students spend time outdoors, the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, in partnership with the Sumner Police Department, Bonney Lake Police Department, Pierce County Sheriff's Office, and East Pierce Fire & Rescue, encourages families to learn more about a new state law that clarifies the difference between e-bikes and electric motorcycles.

An e-bike must have working pedals and cannot exceed 20 mph using motor power alone. Higher-powered devices may be classified as electric motorcycles, with additional age, licensing, and operating requirements. E-motorcycles are not allowed on school campuses.

Before your child rides, talk about safe riding habits, traffic laws, where devices can be used, and the importance of wearing a helmet every time.

If you're unsure about the type of e-ride device your child uses, view the E-Ride Guide linked on website at sumnersd.org/eridelaw

Today, we celebrated our amazing 8th graders as they completed 3 years at SMS and are preparing to take the next step in their educational journey.

It was a day filled with pride, memories, laughter, and reflection as we recognized their accomplishments, growth, and the positive impact they have made on our school community. Over the years, these students have learned, led, persevered, and created lasting friendships that will stay with them for years to come.

The day started off with the 8th grade assembly. Our wonderful Boosters then gifted each student with a t-shirt and donut. As if that wasn't enough, next came the handing out of the yearbooks! We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and excited to see all they will achieve in high school and beyond. Congratulations, 8th graders! πŸ‘βœ¨

Last week, our 8th-grade students had the exciting opportunity to visit Sumner High School and get a glimpse of their future as Spartans! During the tour, students explored the campus, learned about academic and extracurricular opportunities, and became familiar with the school environment they will soon call home.

The visit helped ease the transition to high school while building excitement for the next chapter in their educational journey. We are proud of our students and look forward to seeing all they accomplish as they prepare for this important milestone.✨
