LOCAL PEOPLE HIGHLIGHT: Mimi Miyamoto Crawford
This is kind of a new feature, but in lieu of MLK day, we'd like to showcase this awesome local Houston artist.
Mimi Miyamoto Crawford is a Japanese native from Osaka, Japan. Her work is influenced by Japanese Authentic art and powerful Icons like Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Miriam Makeba, Malcom X, Nina Simone and more.
Her work has been showcased at the Breakfast Klub and highlighted in Dawning Soul, among art galleries, blogs, and online magazines in Houston.
If you know Mimi-San, she is probably one of the sweetest woman you've ever met, yet her Her passion in her paintings, drawings, and graphic design which reflect from her strong character and drive.

ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHT: MLK Grande Parade 2013
The MLK Grande Parade-Houston Is One Of the Largest Civic Events In The Nation In Honor And Memory Of The Life And Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It's Theme "Empowerment Through Education" Will Emphasize The Importance Of Higher Education As A Means To Bridge The Racial And Economic Divide.
The MLK Grande Parade-Houston Is A Culturally Diverse Activity And Will Feature Performing Groups From Around The Country.
During The 19th Annual MLK Grande Parade, 300,000 Spectators are expected and has a Viewing Audience of more than 4,000,000. The parade consists of:
- 15 Parade floats
- 30 Marching bands
