🧐CAN GREEN CARD HOLDERS GET MEDICARE?

Many immigrant families in the U.S. ask this question when planning for parents, retirement, or future healthcare costs.

The answer is: YES β€” but not automatically.

In general, a Green Card holder may qualify for Medicare if they meet key requirements, such as:

βœ… Being age 65 or eligible through certain disability rules
βœ… Having enough U.S. work history, or qualifying through a spouse’s work record
βœ… Being a lawful permanent resident who has lived in the U.S. for at least **5 continuous years** before applying

Under policy changes that began in **July 2025**, Medicare eligibility for non-citizens became more limited. Green Card holders may still qualify, but some other lawfully present immigrant groups may no longer be eligible.

If Medicare is not available yet, some immigrants may still have other health coverage options, such as Marketplace insurance, depending on their status, income, and state rules.

πŸ“Œ Planning ahead matters β€” especially if you or your parents are Green Card holders preparing for retirement, healthcare, or U.S. citizenship.

Pacific Immigration helps immigrants across all 50 states with Green Card renewal, citizenship, family-based immigration, and other immigration matters.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ USCIS IS TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT GREEN CARD CASES β€” HERE’S WHAT APPLICANTS SHOULD KNOW

USCIS has been strengthening its screening and vetting process for immigration filings, including cases related to Green Cards and Adjustment of Status.

This does not mean every case will become harder to approve β€” but it does mean accuracy, consistency, and complete documentation matter more than ever.

USCIS may review details such as:

βœ” Personal information and immigration history
βœ” Consistency across forms and supporting documents
βœ” Past filings or prior immigration records
βœ” Eligibility for the immigration benefit requested
βœ” Background and security-related checks

Even small mistakes β€” missing documents, inconsistent answers, or unclear case history β€” may lead to delays, requests for evidence, or additional review.

Before filing, make sure your case is prepared carefully and your information is consistent from start to finish.
