Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. With the warmer months here, it’s the perfect time to visit local parks, explore the Tulsa or Oklahoma City zoos, attend a community event, or spend a fun day at your favorite museum or attraction.

Through Oklahoma ABLE Tech's Device Reutilization Program, Oklahomans may be able to obtain mobility equipment such as transport wheelchairs or specialized strollers that can make outings easier, more comfortable, and more accessible. These lightweight, portable devices can help individuals with mobility needs participate more fully in community activities while reducing the physical demands on family members and caregivers, allowing families to focus less on logistics and more on making memories.

Whether you're planning a short walk around the neighborhood or a full day of adventure, Oklahoma ABLE Tech's Device Reutilization Program may be able to help. Contact the Device Reutilization Program at [email protected] or visit okabletech.org/reuse to learn about the equipment available in inventory!

Future speech-language pathologists at Oklahoma State University (OSU) are gaining hands-on experience with the many ways individuals access Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)!

Graduate students in the OSU Communication Sciences and Disorders AAC course recently participated in an AAC Access Methods Lab, where they explored a variety of augmentative and alternative access options using high-tech communication devices. Students had the opportunity to experience and learn about eye-gaze systems, head-tracking styluses, joysticks, adaptive mice, Guided Hands, and switch scanning.

The lab also featured finger-isolation tools, including keyguards, finger-isolation gloves, and toys designed to promote isolated finger movements. In addition, students explored switch-adapted toys, AAC device mounting options, and communication device harnesses.

Devices from Oklahoma ABLE Tech's Device Loan Program provided students with a professional development opportunity to understand the diverse access needs of AAC users and the importance of matching assistive technology to an individual!
