My favorite analysis of a permanent magnet motor is the d-q analysis as one can easily visualize the entire motor performance using the d-q vector diagram as shown below. Id the demagnetizing vector is aligned with the +ve x-axis and Vd is therefore automatically aligned with the -ve x-axis. The back EMF component is aligned with the Y-axis along with the Iq compnent. Thereafter we can develop the complete motor torque and power equations using this graphic.
