Today is Time to Talk Day. While it’s primarily a UK-based mental health campaign, I love the idea behind it and think it’s still worth honoring as a way to help break the stigma around mental health. The goal is simple: have conversations about mental health. Therapy is where many deeply personal conversations happen, but talking about therapy in general terms still helps normalize it and reminds people it doesn’t have to be taboo. For example, when I have a doctor’s appointment, I don’t share all the details—I just say, “I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.” We should treat therapy the same way. Going to therapy is common, especially these days, and something as simple as saying, “I can’t do lunch tomorrow because I have a therapy appointment at noon, but how about dinner?” is a great step toward making mental health care feel normal and accepted.

I am pleased to say that I have completed a 48-hour training program and now am a Certified First Responder Counselor! Although I am not new to working with first responders, I feel like this training has opened up my eyes even more to the stress and pressure that they experience and how this can impact their lives and relationships with others. The below is some additional information from my website www.invest-in-yourself-wellness.com

Amy has long been passionate about supporting first responders, recognizing the extraordinary demands they face each day. These professionals routinely operate under intense pressure, endure repeated exposure to traumatic events, and carry a profound sense of responsibility for the safety and well-being of their communities. While their dedication is unwavering, many first responders continue to serve while quietly struggling in their personal lives.

Common challenges may include emotional isolating from family and loved ones, reliance on unhealthy coping strategies such as substance use or excessive spending, difficulty regulating emotions outside of work, and neglect of their physical health. Extended shifts marked by constant hypervigilance and high stress can gradually take a significant toll on both mental and emotional well-being.

Individual therapy plays a vital role in helping first responders process traumatic experiences before they accumulate and symptoms intensify over time. Therapy offers a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where they can build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and restore balance—empowering them to continue the meaningful work they love while maintaining their own well-being.

Would you say that your job is a source of stress? Spending hours a week in an environment where you feel a great deal of stress can certainly have an impact on your mental health and can negatively impact your home life and relationships, if not managed appropriately. Learning skills, techniques and boundaries can make a huge difference and ultimately make you an overall happier person. Therapy is a great way to start! 586 280-8280.

Today is World Mental Health Day. This year's focus is on Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophies and Emergencies.

Not everyone has realistic access to mental health services. Someone who doesnt have health insurance or who is underinsured, sometimes have to prioritize other necessities before mental health services, thus not receiving much needed care.

If you or anyone that you know is in this situation, please reach out to me. I can assist in finding services at reduced or no cost, so that no one suffers in silence.
