Illinois has already lost 90% of its wetlands and a new rule proposed by the federal government would leave the few that remain even more vulnerable. Illinois should be stepping up where the federal government is stepping back by codifying protections into state law before some of our most extraordinary landscapes are lost forever.

As a member of the Protect IL Waters coalition, Openlands is gathering signatures to show statewide support in passing meaningful wetland protections. Signatures will be dropped off at Governor Pritzker’s office during Wetlands Learn and Lobby Day this Thursday, April 24th.
