“The Artist That Could See Sound (Seriously)” Wassily Kandinsky experienced the world differently. He described hearing colours and feeling shapes, a condition known as synaesthesia. For him, music and painting weren’t separate fields. One could translate into the other. Over time, his paintings became more abstract, not because he lost interest in the visible world, but because he wanted to express something deeper. He gave his works titles like Improvisation and Composition, thinking of them less as pictures and more as visual scores. Kandinsky believed that colour could stir the soul in the same way that sound could.
