☀️ EXTREME HEAT SAFETY ALERT ☀️
The members of North Shore Rescue Squad remind everyone to take extra precautions during this period of extreme heat. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly and become life-threatening.
Stay Safe by Following These Tips:
💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat.
🌳 Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours (10 AM–4 PM).
❄️ Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
🚗 Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a parked vehicle.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without air conditioning.
🐾 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.
Know the Warning Signs
⚠️ Heat Exhaustion:
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or dizziness
• Nausea
• Muscle cramps
• Cool, clammy skin
🚨 Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency):
• Body temperature above 103°F
• Hot, red, dry skin
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Seizures or unconsciousness
If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately, move them to a cooler area, and begin cooling them with cool water, wet towels, or ice packs while waiting for EMS. Extreme heat is one of the deadliest weather hazards in the United States, so taking precautions can save lives.
