These lots are where farmers keep their livestock in very crowded pens. The cows get limited movement/exercise and suffer under their own weight. The chickens are stuffed into tiny coups full of other chickens, stepping in their own waste. They are starved until the last minute and force fed feed with hormones and antibiotics. When animals and humans are stressed they produce cortisol. This cortisol affects the tenderness or toughness of the meat. Enough of it, even consumed, can cause a heart attack.
