Staten Islanders are receiving the following letter in their mailboxes from NYC regarding a project at the former Fresh Kills Landfill.

The sanitation department is seeking approval from NYSDEC to modify the air permit for the closed Fresh Kills Landfill.

In basic terms, buried waste at the site still produces landfill gas, and this permit change deals with how that gas is collected, managed, and reviewed for potential impacts like air quality, odors, and emissions.

This public virtual meeting on June 30th @ 6:30pm is part of the state review process and gives residents a chance to ask questions, raise concerns, and get answers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
