{Part IV} Getting to transfer day is pretty much the equivalent of making it to the finish line at the end of a marathon. There are no guarantees the embryo will stick, but after putting your body through so much, you finally get to walk out those clinic doors (technically) pregnant. And it feels amazing. Also slightly bizarre. You’re scared to move around normally and you feel as if even one negative thought could cause it to fail. And then you remember how the majority of women are still drinking alcohol before they even realize they’re pregnant while you’re over there cutting back on caffeine.

I will never forget how I was waiting for “the call” from my clinic after going in for bloodwork following my embryo transfer with Nate to see if it worked when they called me only 40 minutes after I left. I was shaking as I answered and when I did, the nurse didn’t say anything except, “You can come up now.” I was so confused and kept asking if that was good or bad news, but she just repeated herself that I needed to come up. At this point I was panicking because I had already made it back home, not having any idea that I was supposed to wait on-site. Thankfully the nurse figured out pretty quickly that she had called the wrong patient, but talk about giving someone a heart attack.

Can’t believe we’re going to have a newborn in just a matter of weeks!!! Ahh!!!

And RIP abs. Hope to see you again soon.

Over the moon for the baby I’m currently carrying, but I will never not think of the baby girl we lost and I will forever mourn the sister our kids will never get to know.
