"I wanted a proper DSLR camera for years, and after adopting a puppy early into the pandemic, it seemed like an appropriate time. The most interesting thing I learned was a steady hand goes a long way. Now, every time I leave the house I'm thinking about the camera and making sure I capture all of life's events (especially the growth of the puppy) through a more sophisticated lens. Memories are great in and of themselves, but I also love trying to capture 'a picture worth a thousand words.'
I actually bought the bike while 'quarantined' two winters ago with a double fracture in my left leg. The bike laid around in parts until the pandemic hit, when I decided it was finally time to put the thing together. Despite how simple a machine a bike seems to be, working on one is not quite as easy as you might assume. The most frustrating part is taking it apart and reassembling the chain. Building a bike from parts reminded me how much I appreciate mechanical/hands-on type of work. Troubleshooting something like that is as much physical as it is mental, which was refreshing. Also, building a fixed gear bike opens the door to velodrome racing for me, and also has introduced me to a new network of cyclists in the St. Louis cycling scene."
