ORANGE BEACH, AL —
In Summer of 1999, after moving down to Orange Beach (AL), I was driving around the area and saw this man working alone on these two baseball fields.

I got out of my car, walked up to these very small youth fields and met a guy named Danny Martin, who would become one of the best persons one could ever meet, very positive, always smiling and full of life.

We started talking baseball and shared ideas and within 30-minutes later he had me following him down to City Hall to meet the Mayor.

Danny knew everyone - he was unofficially the Mayor of Orange Beach. If you needed something done - Danny was the guy who could make it happen.

For the next two decades, I would get to see up close the impact he had on this city and the growth of all youth sports in the area especially baseball, softball and soccer.

Just two years later, Danny’s efforts paved the way for the Orange Beach Sportsplex to be built.

Once opened, I would host Pro-Day week long summer baseball camps and state high school showcases throughout the year.

The event would turn into a regional, national and later a World Showcase, where players were also represented from seven different countries here in Orange Beach.

The prospects were evaluated by professional scouts and college coaches with hopes of receiving college scholarships or get drafted professionally.

The Orange Beach Sportsplex grew from four fields to nine fields for baseball/softball with one able to host collegiate baseball games. Four soccer fields could also be available for up to eight teams at one time.

Pro-Day Baseball honored and inducted Danny Martin into the Hall-of-Fame on January 17, 2016 in Orange Beach (AL) for what he did for the youth and this organization.

This past week, I received one of those calls one would never want to hear about on the passing of Danny Martin .

It hit me hard to hear the news about a person you could call a “True” friend and Danny had many.

The last few days, I’ve been thinking about all the wonderful memories that we shared over the years. Lots of good times.

There’s not enough words that would do justice of the good
Danny did for so many people. We “All” say “Thank You” and grateful you were part of our lives.
