I am back now to break down Amendment 5 and why I am voting NO on Aug 4.

Politicians say they need Amendment 5 to eliminate the state income tax. BUT... they have the power to cut the income tax to zero by law right now. There is no need to change the constitution to do that.

About 2/3 of Missouri's general fund comes from income taxes. Let's call it 8.5 billon dollars. What is the specific plan to fill that gap? I am not a big fan of "trust us" and next year the legislation will figure it out. You want me to vote on something - you give me concrete numbers to where will will have to pick up this massive gap.

Back in 1980, the Hancock Amendment was passed. It restricts state and local governments from raising taxes without voter approval. We would be permanently surrendering that right. WHAT?!?!

I can't believe we even have to vote NO on something this under thought out. This is not a plan. This is just a scary unknown.

The Ballot Title says: "At this time, the impact on taxes is unknown." This is because the Legislature and the State Auditor realize Amendment 5's cancellation of constitutional taxpayer safeguards mean new taxes could go sky-high — the biggest tax increase in Missouri history. The final total tax increase is anyone's guess, but the nonpartisan Missouri Budget Project estimates 80% of Missourians will see increased state taxes because of Amendment 5.

Vote NO on Amendment 5!

Today I attended a rally for a unified effort for NO on Amendments 4 & 5. Over the next couple of weeks, I will share more thoughts on why I am voting that way.

Let's start with Amendment 4
Over the last 118 years, citizen-proposed amendments have cleaned up corruption, incompetence or just a complete change in the way we live (sometimes its just that easy - when you know better, you do better). This has protected taxpayers. These reforms were approved by majority rule just like we learned in school.
✅ One person, one vote.

Amendment 4 values your vote based on where you live. NOT one person, one vote. The politicians who voted for this say the citizen proposed amendments don't warrant one person, one vote but they are not changing the way they can pass a law. They still want the ability of not having to pass in 8-out-of-8 congressional districts. That's a weird double standard. It's like they don't trust us to know what will effect our daily lives.

We the Citizens of Missouri have the power and freedom to directly propose amendments to the Missouri Constitution - and politicians hate it. I for one do not want to give up this amazing freedom and responsibility.

Trust Yourself. Politicians Don't
