This moring the walkway at the HUB was lifted into place connecting the SMTD transfer center to the Sangamon County atrium. Visitors will also be able to access the new Sangamon Mass Transit District bus transfer station and Greyhound by walking over a sky bridge over the 10th Street railroad tracks.

SMTD BOARD MEETING April 27, 2026
Steve Schoeffel: on smtd side of HUB waiting on elevators and security gate/steel structure for parking garage on county side going up quickly/early June a 280, 000 lb walkway will be hoisted & put in place/8 sessions from Memorial Behavioral Health on mental health received good feedback – now a resource for help when needed
Melissa Ashford: Buddy Route 66 Celebration now in garage/phone issues ironed out with county IT/Access requests for urbanized area increasing/will need evaluation to accommodate this growth – increase fueled by passage of time and word of mouth and cab companies out of business/also social service agencies would use vouchers with cab companies for client transit
Jason Sass: adding to info on active transportation plan as seek more comments from transit partners/safety action plan expecting completion by mid-June and adding to it summary of survey done by smtd staff & drivers
Michele Alexander: 4.7% increase in FY 2027 operating budget from purchase of 19 buses (covered by federal grants), wage increases, liability claims and computer maintenance/replacing buses (12-year life span) from 2023 and 2014 puts district in “state of good repair” industry status
Board approved: 1. Putting FY 2027 corporate operating & capital budget on file for public inspection 2. Adding Melissa Peterson as a BOS authorized signer
