WESTMINSTER, Vt. -- The top team in the south pulled away late for a 19-7 victory during last night's three-hour slugfest at Hadley Field.

Ludlow Post 36 held a 6-5 edge entering the fifth inning before exploding for 13 runs over the final three innings to distance itself from Bellows Falls Post 37.

In addition to runs scored, Ludlow reached double digits in hits (10), stolen bases (11), and walks (14).

Pacing Ludlow offensively was Eli Boxer with 3 hits, Milo Tucker with 5 runs scored, and Tanner Swisher with 5 runs batted in and 5 stolen bases. Aidan Garvey homered in the winning effort.

Saul James led Bellows Falls with 2 hits and Paul Young scored twice for the hosts.

Both teams are slated to play their next contests on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Ludlow (10-4) invites Bennington Post 13 to town and Bellows Falls (6-7) heads to Lakes Region Post 49/50/87.

HARTFORD, Vt. -- Wyatt Chambers and Quinlan Grace combined to hold Bellows Falls Post 37 to just two hits during White River Junction Post 84's 6-0 victory last night in Hartford.

White River Junction raced out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and added three more runs in the fifth inning before securing the victory.

Jacob Kissell and Jackson Fletcher teamed up to hold White River Junction to six hits and didn't walk a single batter, but four errors by BF led to five unearned runs for Post 84.

Devyn Cheeney and Jacob Kissell each recorded hits for Bellows Falls.

Bellows Falls (6-6) currently sits in the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division with 6 games remaining. BF hosts Ludlow (9-4) today at 5:30 p.m.

WESTMINSTER, Vt. -- Bellows Falls Post jumped 37 jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and held on for a 3-2 victory this afternoon against Rutland Post 31.

Pat Connors threw a complete game for Bellows Falls, allowing only 5 hits while striking out 6.

Eli Allbee (2 hits, 2 runs scored) and Alden Weld (1 hit, 1 run scored) were responsible for all of BF's hits and runs scored.

Despite recording only 3 hits, BF exhibited excellent patience at the plate by registering 9 walks as a team.

Bellows Falls (6-5) is scheduled to be back in action tomorrow at White River Junction Post 84 at 7 p.m.

LUDLOW, Vt. -- Ludlow Post 36 held Rutland Post 31 to just 3 runs over 14 innings to sweep Saturday's doubleheader at Black River High School in Ludlow.

Milo Tucker went the distance in the opener to help Ludlow secure a 4-1 victory. Tucker allowed no earned runs and struck out 6 in the winning effort.

Tanner Swisher paced Post 36 offensively by going 2-for-3 with a home run.

The second game saw a trio of pitchers' team up for Ludlow to shut down the opposition.

Mason Parker, Emmett Hutten, and Matthew Studin combined to allow only 5 hits and 2 walks during Ludlow's 7-2 victory.

Aidan Garvey homered and was one of seven different players to record a hit for Ludlow.

Post 36 also manufactured offense by drawing 9 walks and stealing 8 bases.

Ludlow (9-4) moved back into first place in the South Division with the sweep after White River Junction (8-4) split its doubleheader against Lakes Region on Saturday.

Ludlow heads to Bellows Falls (5-5) for its next contest on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Chester's Kaiden McCarthy made history today by becoming the highest-ever Major League Baseball selection among Vermont high school baseball players.

McCarthy was selected in the 2nd round (48th overall) by the Atlanta Braves. U-32 alum Owen Kellington held the previous record for Vermont high school players when he was chosen in the 4th round (102nd overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021.

Let's take a look at what's next for Kaiden.

1) MLB teams have until July 27th at 5 p.m. ET to sign their draft picks. If Kaiden and the Braves can agree on contract terms he will likely be assigned to one of their minor league affiliates. Kaiden previously committed to the University of Tennessee and could elect to play for the Volunteers if he is unable to come to terms with the Braves.

2) Atlanta Braves Minor League Affiliates:
Triple-A: Gwinnett Stripers (Lawrenceville, GA)
Double-A: Columbus Clingstones (Columbus, GA)
High-A: Rome Braves (Rome, GA)
Single-A: Augusta GreenJackets (North Augusta, SC)

The Braves major league squad is having a strong season, currently sitting in first in the National League East Division at 54-39. Despite their success at the major league level, Kaiden will provide a boost to their farm system which was ranked 24th in MLB.com's preseason rankings.

CHESTER, Vt. -- While often receiving recognition at the Winter Olympics in sports such as skiing and snowboarding, Vermont is not typically associated with producing professional athletes in most sports.

Having the second smallest population of any state is one major factor, along with winter weather conditions which can make year-round training challenging in several sports.

One of those sports is baseball, where the Green Mountain State has never had a player selected within the first three rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft.

This could all change tomorrow when Major League Baseball hosts the first four rounds of its amateur draft in Philadelphia.

Chester native and Vermont Academy alum Kaiden McCarthy is currently 52nd in ESPN's most recent draft prospect rankings and 61st on MLB.com.

These rankings position McCarthy favorably to be selected ahead of Vermont's highest ever selection. U-32 alum Owen Kellington holds the current distinction after being chosen in the 4th round (102nd overall) of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McCarthy, who has yet to turn 18 years old, provides plenty of upside with a fastball approaching 100 miles per hour and strong off-speed pitches to complement his heater.

For those interested in potentially witnessing history in the making, the draft is slated to kickoff tomorrow at 1 p.m. The first ten picks will air on NBC/Peacock before coverage switches over to the MLB Network, MLB.com, MLB.TV, and MLB+ at 2:30.

The MLB Draft will resume on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with rounds 5-20.

HARTFORD, Vt. -- White River Junction Post 84 played mistake-free baseball during yesterday's 8-3 victory over Ludlow Post 36 at Maxfield Sports Complex in Hartford.

Ludlow trailed 5-0 after two innings and was unable to overcome the early deficit.

Post 36 outhit the White River Junction 7-6, but the hosts were able to capitalize on 6 errors committed by Ludlow.

Andrei Solzhenitsyn paced Ludlow with 3 hits and Eli Boxer followed with 2. Boxer also scored twice and added 2 stolen bases.

With the win, White River Junction (7-3) moved a half-game ahead of Ludlow (7-4) for the top spot in the South Division.

Ludlow invites Rutland (6-4) to town this weekend for a key doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Black River High School.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- Brattleboro Post 5 swept tonight's doubleheader against Bellows Falls Post 37 with a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting.

Jackson Demartis held Bellows Falls to just 2 hits in the first contest to help Brattleboro secure a 5-1 victory.

Eli Allbee went 1-for-1 with 2 walks, 2 stolen bases, and a run scored in defeat.

In the nightcap, Bellows Falls entered the bottom of the seventh inning with a 5-4 edge before the hosts took over.

Bellows Falls was unable to record an out in the final frame while Brattleboro sealed a 6-5 win after a walk-off walk.

Steven Joslyn recorded 4 hits and Pat Connors crossed home 3 times to pace BF offensively.

Bellows Falls (5-5) hosts Rutland Post 31 in its next contest on Sunday at noon.
