Illinois EPA has been the state agency with the primary responsibility for carrying out state and federal environmental laws and regulations to protect and provide healthy air, land and water for the citizens of the state through a system of permits, inspections and compliance and enforcement, as well as having responsibility for regulating public water supplies and wastewater treatment and sewage systems.
