• The current 50‑star design was created by a 17‑year‑old student, Robert G. Heft, whose class project was later selected by President Eisenhower.
• The United States has had 27 official flag versions, most updated as new states joined the Union.
• Red, white, and blue were chosen with intention: strength, purity, and perseverance.
• Six American flags have been placed on the moon by Apollo mission crews.
• Today’s design is the longest‑running version in our nation’s history.
