Staff enjoyed a valuable professional learning opportunity this week at the Springfield Museum of Art, led by museum educator Amy Korpieski. Teachers who selected this option to make up snow day time explored creative ways to use art and movement to connect cross-curricular learning.

The session focused on Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), an engaging teaching method built around one simple question: “What’s going on in this picture?” Through guided discussion of art and visual media, VTS helps students strengthen critical thinking, communication, literacy, and observation skills.

Staff left with practical ideas for creating learner-centered classroom discussions that encourage curiosity, deeper thinking, and student engagement across all subject areas.
