At Roots Therapy Solutions, we love incorporating nature into our therapy practice because the outdoors creates endless opportunities for movement, regulation, exploration, imagination, and meaningful connection. It reminds us of the intentional rhythms woven into creation and reflects our faith in God as Creator — One who designed children with a natural desire to explore, wonder, and connect with the world around them.

A fun twist on hammock swing play 🧡

Try attaching a rope or ladder swing nearby for your child to grasp and climb while generating the momentum of the hammock swing themselves! This playful challenge naturally encourages grip strength, core activation, motor planning, coordination, and shoulder stability — all through movement, sensory input, and outdoor play. 💪🧠

When children create the movement themselves, their bodies and brains are working together in such meaningful ways ✨

🌼🧵🪡 Today we explored nature lacing using closed dandelion heads, a needle, and thread. After carefully picking the dandelions before they opened to seed, we threaded them onto a string and waited overnight. By morning, each little puff had opened into the most magical natural garland ✨

This simple activity supports fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, patience, and connection with the beauty God created all around us. We loved hanging ours on our for the sweetest touch of nature play and decoration.

Problem solving doesn’t always happen at a table with worksheets or directions. Sometimes it happens in real time — outside, in play, with a simple stick and a curious mind. 🌿

This little moment was a great reminder that when we pause, wait, and give children space to think, incredible learning can unfold. After noticing the stick wasn’t the right length, this child stopped, reconsidered, and adjusted to make it fit better. No rushing. No fixing it for them. Just time to observe, process, and try again.

These are the moments where flexible thinking, motor planning, persistence, and confidence grow. 💚
