Springfield Lutheran School fifth grader Addie Collins was recognized last week for her submission to the Missouri Arbor Day Poster Contest through the Missouri Forestry Council. Addie's poster won "popular vote" in the entire state of Missouri! We were honored to celebrate her with special guests from the Missouri Forestry Council, City of Springfield, MO, City Utilities of Springfield, MO, Tree City USA, and Missouri Dept. of Conservation come and present Addie with several awards and gifts. Addie had a beautiful Yellowwood tree planted in her honor along the Sunset Creek Trail in Springfield. This tree was added to the Springfield Tree City USA registry and is named the Williams Collins Yellowwood.

These guests also took the time to teach our students about tree planting and health, and presented each student with a tree to plant in their own yard. We are so proud of Addie and love that we are able to contribute to the beautiful Springfield trails! Thank you to Ms. Williams for helping our students find ways to give back to our community and care for God's creation.

Each month, students at SLS learn a Hymn of the Month as a way to help them learn beloved worship, and as a way to put God's Word in their hearts. This month, students are learning "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" (LSB 809).
