Apologizing to your teenager is crucial for a healthy parent-child bond. It shows humility, vulnerability, and accountability. By acknowledging our mistakes, we model appropriate behavior and teach them that adults can admit imperfections. Apologies validate their emotions and foster connection.

When parents embark on the journey of connection-based parenting, there can be some misunderstandings. One common misconception is that we should always speak to our child in a sweet and kind voice. But here's the truth: connection-based parenting is not solely about the tone of our voice. It's about being regulated internally. 💛
Being regulated means being in control of our emotions and providing a safe space for our child to stay connected. Whether we use a sweet kind voice, express firmness, address behaviors, or embrace our inner goofball, it can all be done in a regulated state. It's about maintaining a calm and balanced internal state. 🌿
If you're new to this approach, instead of focusing solely on the sound of your voice, practice checking in with yourself and exploring how you feel internally. That's where the primary work happens.

I love this quote because it serves as a universal metaphor for anyone at any age. How do we stay true to ourselves when surrounded by such strong external influences? How do we know who we really are, at our core? Are we defined by our decisions? Our behavior? The image we project onto the world? Or do we get to choose?
Today, I invite you to reflect on the most important question of all: Who do I want to be? ✨ Write down the values that hold importance to you and examine each area of your life. Ask yourself, "Am I honoring my values here?" For those areas where you fall short, consider what's holding you back and how you can let go to become the person you aspire to be.
