🚨 Beware of Text Message Scams 🚨
We’re all glued to our phones—and scammers know it. We have recently seen an uptick in fraudulent text messages from the RMV and wanted to share some helpful tips. Text messaging is the most widely used data service in the world, which makes it a popular tool for fraudsters impersonating businesses, agencies, or even someone you know.
The FBI, local law enforcement, and the BBB are reporting an increase in scam texts involving fake fund transfers, lottery winnings, gift offers, and urgent requests for personal information.
⚠️ Red flags to watch for:
Unsolicited texts from unknown numbers
Messages sent “by mistake” asking general questions
Urgent or threatening calls to action
Promises that seem too good to be true
Texts from businesses you didn’t give permission to contact you

✅ Protect yourself:
Don’t click links or respond to suspicious texts
Use spam-blocking tools from your wireless provider
Block scam numbers
Download reputable scam‑blocking apps

📢 If you receive a suspicious text or fall victim to a scam, report it to the FTC, FCC, or the MA Attorney General’s Office.
