This 4th of July is our 250th Anniversaryโ€ฆHow are you celebrating? More importantly What are you celebrating?

We all know that the 4th of July honors the signing of the Declaration of Independence. When was the last time you deeply pondered the meaning of this sacred text on which our great nation was founded? I am currently reading โ€œThe Greatest Sentence Ever Writtenโ€ by Walter Isaacson. It is short little book focusing on the second sentence of the declarationโ€ฆ

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rightsโ€ฆLife, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happinessโ€ฆ

This is our mission statement; the founding idea from which all other concepts of patriotism flow. It is the promise of the idea of America. It is the premise on which we believe that many divergent people from all over the world can come together and live in harmony, prosper, and yet still hold for the common good of all.

I have come to believe that Patriotism in its truest sense is grounded in our ability to live up to the promise of the idea of America.

Please join me this Sunday as explore more deeply this sentence which touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes.

Prayer and how we pray is a private and individual expression which can be as unique as each one of us. The power is in our surrender and in our faith and trust in a prayer practice.

On Sunday, I will explore with us some of our founding thinkers in the early Unity movement and their teachings on prayer.
