Good To Go, a mobile soup kitchen, distributes free and healthy to-go meals to the unsheltered community in Springfield, Missouri. This 501(c)(3) organization was founded in December 2016 with the simple mission in mind: Find and feed the hungry. Executive director Denise Berg Johnson says "Our goal is to have a mobile food unit like a truck or concession trailer. While we raise money for the actu
al mobile food unit and develop menus for numerous weekly meals, we are hitting the ground running with donations of pre-packaged food items, bananas and bottled water." Johnson says it is a community effort. “We collaborate with a few local groups who serve the homeless in various ways and we are going to partner with organizations with locations convenient to our target population. Future plans include using the actual mobile food unit to serve prepared soups and sandwiches and to serve at various locations and times throughout the city. Currently a sample to-go meal includes a Bumble Bee Tuna Salad kit, a piece of fruit, a protein or dairy snack item, and a bottle of water. Good To Go will also have limited kids meals, too, serving Peanut Butter & Jelly Uncrustables, fruit, and milk. “Each child under 12 will also get to pick a toy from the toy box. It’s our own version of the classic Happy Meal.” Says Johnson. “I hate to see anyone go hungry but, man, kids....whew...that kills me."
