Former University of Oregon football running back, current SPD officer, & Thurston High School Resource Officer Allan Amundson will be honored during the Ducks October 10 football game against UCLA, where he will receive the Leo Harris Award—the highest honor presented to a former U of O varsity letterman. Congratulations, Allan!

Established in 1967 by former UO Athletic Director Leo Harris & later renamed in his honor, the Leo Harris Award recognizes alumni lettermen who have demonstrated at least 20 years of outstanding achievement & service since their final varsity season.

A 4-year letterman, running back, & kick returner for 4 Oregon bowl teams—including the 2002 Fiesta Bowl—Amundson remains one of the program's greatest special teams players. He played in 37 games under Coach Mike Bellotti, finishing with 1,680 career kick return yards, still 4th most in school history, while adding 520 rushing yards & 4 touchdowns. His memorable one-yard touchdown in double overtime secured Oregon's dramatic 56-55 victory over Arizona State in 2000. As a 2002 All-Pac-10 second-team kick returner, he also posted 181 return yards against #7 USC in 2001, still the 3rd highest single-game total in program history. Amundson was inducted into the Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 as a member of the 2001 football team.

After earning a psychology degree from Oregon in 2003 & spending time in the NFL & NFL Europe, Amundson began a career in public service. For the past 21 years, he has served with the Springfield Police Department as a patrol officer, SWAT team member, & now School Resource Officer at Thurston High School.

Amundson was named Springfield Police Officer of the Year in 2012, is a Medal of Valor recipient, & has earned multiple Chief's Awards. He has also dedicated countless hours to community service through programs including Bridge the Gap, Tip a Cop, Shop with a Cop, Springfield Cleanup, Popsicle Patrol, Toys for Tots, & Special Olympics.

Whether on the football field or in uniform, Allan Amundson has consistently demonstrated leadership, service, & a commitment to strengthening his community, making him a truly deserving recipient of the Award.

7/8/26 - Does your child have a properly fitting life jacket for the summer?

Ensure they do, by coming to see us on July 10th, at the Springfield Elks Lodge!

The Springfield Elks Lodge has purchased life jackets to help every child in Lane County have access to the right size life jacket. This year, the fun continues!

Bring your child and an outgrown, lightly used life jacket to exchange for a properly fitting life jacket. We will help check jackets for form, fit, and function. Exchanged life jackets will be inspected for safety and handed back out to other children. Leftover jackets will go to loaner stations around the county.

This event is, first come, first served, and your child must be present for sizing.

The event will be held on Friday, July 10th from 3pm to 7pm, at the Springfield Elks Lodge located at 1701 Centennial Blvd in Springfield.
