The Gathering

One of the most basic human desires is to be seen. To be seen is to be valued. To be valued gives at least the possibility of being known.

As we turn to the second chapter of Ruth, we see a woman now in a foreign land, trying to make the best of a truly hard situation. But instead of manipulating outcomes, instead of trying to make things go her way, Ruth decides she will stay faithful to her promise to help Naomi and follow the God of the people of Bethlehem.

And "as it so happened", that's precisely where God revealed that he'd seen her from the start; her rescue was now in motion.
