MEET THE DIRECTOR: Clayton Avery

High Tide Theatrical is thrilled to welcome Clayton Avery back to direct God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza.

Clayton Avery (he/him) is a local actor and director who grew up in the Springfield theatre community. Clayton is overjoyed to return to High Tide Theatrical this season after directing last season’s Hand to God, for which he earned a BroadwayWorld Kansas City Award for Best Direction of a Play (Non-Professional). He holds a BA in Theatre and a BA in Music from Drury University and is proud to call this talented artistic community home.

Other local directing credits include Oklahoma!, School of Rock, and Shrek The Musical Jr. (Springfield Little Theatre), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (SLT Studio Theatre). Favorite recent local performance credits include The Black Rider (Ozarks Lyric Opera); Fairview, Heroes of the Fourth Turning (Springfield Contemporary Theatre); and The Play That Goes Wrong, The Full Monty (Springfield Little Theatre).

Clayton currently performs full time at the Silver Dollar City Saloon. He loves creating and playing with the talented artists and volunteers here, and wants to thank them and the community of wonderful patrons for keeping theatre alive in Springfield!

High Tide Theatrical is now accepting nominations for our Waves of Change program.

Through Waves of Change, we connect select productions with local nonprofits, community groups, and mission-driven organizations whose work aligns with the themes and conversations of the show. Partnerships may include lobby resource tables, Playbill features, social media spotlights, donation drives, post-show conversations, or other community engagement opportunities.

Organizations should be based in Missouri, with special consideration for those serving Springfield and the surrounding area.

MEET THE CAST: Liz Oakley as Veronica Novak

Liz Oakley joins High Tide Theatrical’s production of God of Carnage as Veronica Novak, an idealistic and articulate woman determined to keep the evening civilized — even as the conversation begins to spiral far beyond anyone’s control.

Liz’s previous credits include ensemble roles in Star Trek parody productions with Harvest Moon Productions, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderlandwith Harvest Moon Productions, and ensemble in Miracle on 34th Street at Springfield Little Theatre. She also appeared as a townsperson and cultist in the miniseries Shadowbound.

Liz holds a BA in Writing from Drury University.

On what drew her to God of Carnage, Liz says: “I’m very excited to be in this show. I’ve wanted to be in this play ever since I saw the film version in theaters.”

MEET THE CAST: Adie Ames as Annette Raleigh

Adie Ames joins High Tide Theatrical’s production of God of Carnageas Annette Raleigh, a polished and anxious woman trying desperately to keep the evening contained — until civility starts to crack.

Adie has appeared in numerous productions with Springfield Contemporary Theatre, including The Christians, Blackbird, Black Comedy, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, Around the World in 80 Days, and more. Her additional credits include Tony and Tina’s Wedding with Springfield Little Theatre, as well as Turn of the Screw and Miranda with Class Act. She has also appeared in many Star Trek and Buffy parody shows.

On what drew her to God of Carnage, Adie says: “I saw this performed in 2014 and it’s been on my wishlist ever since. This is a dream type of role — complicated, witty, funny and deeply uncomfortable interactions make for interesting theater for the actor and the audience. People are funny in some complicated ways and this show highlights the absurdity of that.”

Adie is thankful to the friends and family who nudged her to audition — and to the friends she nudged to audition, too.
