Thurston Elementary School Library
Thank you to everyone who supported our library program by coming to the book fair. It was so nice to get to meet our new families and say hello again to many friends. The book fair is truly magical!
Hello everyone! In library we have been talking a lot about community and what makes our community great. I am looking for community members who would like to come and be a guest reader here in the library. We will be doing this once on a half day Friday. You can sign up to be here all day 8:30-12:30 or to do half days 8:30-10:30/10:30-12:30. You would share about what you do to make our community great and read your favorite picture book (or a book related to your topic). Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested and I will get you potential dates. Thanks in advance for making our community great!

Here are some tips and tricks to ensure everyone has an amazing time at this year’s book fair:
1) preview/browsing time will be given to your student during library. This is their time to browse, create a wish list and linger with the books.
2) Shopping time before and after school is short. It’s best if you come in with a game plan, grab the items your student wants and get into line.
3) if your child needs help counting their money, knowing what they can purchase with that amount they have or if you have specific things you would like them to buy, please come shop with them after school.
4) bags of change make it really hard for students to shop independently (and hard for adults to make the line go quickly). If you are able to trade them their savings change for dollar bills we would appreciate it. If not, we understand, but help your child out by putting the change in sandwhich bags. Put one dollar in each bag. That way they can easily pull out the number of bags needed to quickly pay for their items.
5) Please remember, we have over 400 students and one cash register. your cooperation and patience is appreciated!

So proud of all the teams who participated in this years OBOB competition. Battle of the Books is a great way to encourage students to dive into books they might not have otherwise read.
The list of books for next year’s competition is already out. The best way to prepare is to start early! Here’s a link:
